Some of my favourite walks and things to you
1: The Estuary & Sandy Haven Beach (Top Recommendation)
The hidden heart of your stay
Just two minutes’ walk from the cottage door lies a place of rare beauty: a quiet sandy beach and winding tidal estuary that feels like it belongs in another time.
This is a landscape that breathes with the sea. As the tide falls, it reveals wide sands and shallow channels perfect for wandering.
When the tide returns, the estuary fills into a serene, sheltered bay — ideal for swimming, paddling, or drifting gently in a boat while watching seabirds wheel overhead.
At dawn and dusk the light becomes something special. The estuary glows, seals appear like silent ghosts on the water, and the only sounds are the soft calls of curlews and oystercatchers.
On still evenings, the whole scene can feel almost enchanted.
Note: The tide moves quickly here, so always check the tide times before heading down — especially if you want to cross the footbridge.
Many of our guests say this little estuary is the place they return to in their minds long after they’ve gone home.
It may well be the reason you come back to Grassholm Cottage again and again.
From the Owner:
Welcome to one of the most beautiful corners of Pembrokeshire.
While there’s so much to see across the county, my advice for a short stay is simple: stay local. You’ll have a far more relaxing and enjoyable time.
Others (in no particular order of preference):
A wonderful hidden spot within walking distance.
It has a quaint church with monastic history, a manor house, beautiful gardens and ancient woodland, plus a peaceful tidal cove perfect for swimming.
You’ll also pass Lindsway Bay on the walk (Queen Elizabeth II stopped here for a picnic in 1955) off her Yacht Royal Britannia.
Best at low tide so you can walk down onto Lindsway beach.
Time: 1hr 20 mins. Easy

The Gann, near Dale
The walk from The Gann near Dale Kilns, to Monk Haven is one of my favourite walks.
It takes in a pebble beach, headland/cliffs with views across the bay to Dale, ancient woods, and as a treat, when you get to Monk Haven you have a swim if you want to!
Tip: Plan this walk at low tide as there is a footbridge (top left corner, bottom photo) that needs crossing.
Time: 45 mins each way, easy except stony beach
Dale
The super popular Dale is loved by everyone, from watersport enthusiasts (kayaking, windsurfing, rowing), to sitting on a bench looking out over the bay.
The Griffin pub (award winning food) and good for a pint standing outside.
Tân A Môr (old yacht club) which is my go to for food - the chowder if it's on is brilliant - the scallops are delicious.
Bay wide views from terrace and 2nd floor behind glass, if the weather is not for outside
